YA Entry

Our PLC group finally decided to choose these two YA books: Fun Home by Alison Bechdel
and All American Boys by Jason Reynolds.

Fun Home is a family tragicomic which talks about a young girl's (Alison Bechdel) life experience from a young girl to young adult as she realized her own lesbian sexuality.  Her father Bruce almost suicide and he also has secret homosexuality or bisexuality that he kept hidden throughout his life. I think this book is interesting because I want to know more about Lesbian which I am not familiar with. Additionally,  I am also interested in the relationship between the girl Alison Bechdel,  and her father, Bruce.

All American Boys is related to different races in school. I think I really need to read about this because I had never experienced an environment which involved many different races, background, and culture before I came to American. As a result, this topic makes me want to read more and learn more about what should I notice and what I should not do when I am in this diversity environment. Besides, It also involves some violence between the boys in school which is always an issue in school.

Because of my culture and education experiences, I lack knowledge of LGBT and races issue in this world, especially which happen in school. I also think a "good teacher" need to know about these issues to know what could happen to students.
